FAQ

Great question! As a Photo Solutions Consultant, I help clients:

> Take control of their collection of photos, videos, and memorabilia.
> Get old photos and media digitized and preserved.
> Help client restore damaged photos that they love.
> Help the client discover the best backup plan and cloud storage for their precious memories so they can be shared and enjoyed now.
> I also help clients learn how to preserve these precious memories to be shared with future generations.

Yes, I have all the tools to teach remotely or access your computer remotely to keep your project moving forward without face-to-face contact. Scanning and transfers can be sent to me to process or to a preferred vendor that has the same standards I do. This process has become more popular since the onset of the COVID pandemic.

It takes a little work at the beginning but I use a family timeline form to collect pertinent information and I ask for a few photos that are representative of important people and places to help guide me. Finally, in our technological age, I can text or email you a few photos here and there to ask for clarification if you are willing. I usually have a small collection of miscellaneous photos that I hold until I can set up a time to consult with you.

While they are two different processes, I have systems to help remove/separate duplicates. I can do this for you or train you on how to apply our systems. Simply ask!

The negative is absolutely the purest form of the image and the best to scan from a professional standpoint as long as they were stored properly. However, scanning a negative is much more expensive and will often require some post-scan editing. If you have a talent for editing, you may prefer to scan the negative. However, most of our clients are not confident that they have negatives for all of their photos and they do not want to pay the higher cost to scan the negatives. So scanning the print is usually the chosen path. The choice is yours.

We follow the 3-2-1- Backup* method.
The general idea is that you have 3 versions of your photos in 2 different formats (print, external hard drive, cloud, etc.), and 1 should be off-site (cloud storage, external hard drive stored in another physical location, etc.). *credit to Leo LaPorte

I provide photo organizing & management, scanning, transfers, photo restoration, training, product design, video creation, and ongoing maintenance if that is desired. No two clients are the same or have the same needs.  I help each client understand what is available and together we create a roadmap that will help you achieve the outcome you desire, whether you are a Do-it-Yourselfer or I do it for you.

I charge a per-item cost for scanning and transfers. For photo management projects, I use hourly packages. This allows flexibility for the DIYer as well as full-service clients. Every photo collection is unique so the scope of the project will determine the size of the hourly package needed. Schedule a Free 30-minute phone or Zoom consultation so we can discuss the details of your project and provide guidance on the packages available. No pressure and no obligation. I’m here to guide you in the right direction if I can.

Yes, I can! I work with many DIYers who are looking for guidance on how to manage their collections. I enjoy working with clients on a variety of projects and can share our knowledge and systems for you to work at your own pace, without breaking the budget. I can offer homework and timelines to keep you on task, and I check back in periodically to keep you motivated.

I do! Talk to me about how to collect a group of friends and have a fun workshop in your home, via Zoom, your clubhouse, or a local community center! I’d be happy to create the right program for you.

Yes, I do! I have so many great suggestions for how to handle all of that priceless memorabilia (artwork, trophies, letters, cards, audio recordings, and more…) I can help with the consolidation, preservation, and safe storage as well as designing creative displays online that you can share and preserve. Please schedule a call to find out more!

The only items I ship out are film, some video transfers, and some specialty items. This is discussed with the client before items are shipped off-site. I use secure, trackable shipping and the transfer company is a trusted vendor that I have vetted and holds the same professional standards as I do. Your precious memories will never leave the United States.

Absolutely not! I will place photos that I believe could be thrown away (the blurry shot or a shot that is mostly sun flare) in a collection for you to review, but the final say is up to you. I even keep the duplicates for you to discard unless you have explicitly asked me to do so
